YouTube Music and Deezer are beta testing and rolling out new AI features to make it easier to find music on their music streaming platforms.

Music streaming services rely on your search activity, feedback, and listening history to get a better idea of what music they should suggest in your playlist.

But what if you want to listen to a song but can’t remember the title or artist?

YouTube Music’s “sound search” or “hum to search” feature lets a user hum, sing, or play a piece of music to find the song they’re after.

Some Android and iOS users of the YouTube Music app caught a glimpse of this AI song recognition feature back in May but the feature was quickly removed without explanation.

Now, Premium users in the US are starting to see this option available in the app. If you want to see if you’re one of the lucky users then click the search icon in the app and look for a waveform button next to the microphone voice search option.

YouTube Music is adding more AI search power to its app with a beta test of its “conversational radio” feature. Users can create a custom playlist by simply describing what they want to hear.

If you see an “Ask for music any way you like” card in your Home feed then you have access to the feature.

Asking for “laid-back dinner music with a Latin vibe” will deliver a playlist curated by AI instead of relying on premade user-generated playlists.

Deezer is rolling out a similar AI search functionality with its “Playlist with AI” feature. The platform says it will roll the feature out globally but is beta testing it on 5% of its paying subscribers.

“We’re excited to bring this AI-powered feature to Deezer users around the world,” said Alexandra Leloup, VP Product at Deezer. “Whether you need the perfect soundtrack for a workout, a romantic evening, or a nostalgic trip down memory lane, our Playlist with AI feature will curate a new musical experience within a matter of seconds, and offers endless possibilities to easily discover new music.”

The feature, which creates custom playlists from a simple text prompt, is reportedly powered by Google’s Gemini 1.5 AI model.

With AI music generators like Suno, Udio, and Google’s Dream Track becoming available, we may get even more customization options on our streaming apps soon.
